When the weather turns.
While we will typically close or delay in line with Talawanda, it is not automatic. As always, you have the option of keeping your child home should you feel it is prudent.
Talawanda has to make decisions based on conditions very early in the morning for the entire district, even if roads improve by the time the elementary schedule begins, and must consider students waiting outside for buses in wind chill temperatures. McGuffey’s Head of School is in communication with Talawanda’s transportation office about road conditions, in addition to consulting multiple weather websites before making decisions in the wee hours of the morning.

What to expect
Communication
We communicate about closings and delays by 1) email, 2) group texting, and 3) our website.
School delays
A 2-hour delay means morning car line shifts to 10:45–11:00am. Early Care is not available when there is a delay.
Counting days and make-ups
We exceed the state’s required instructional hours by the equivalent of almost 23 days. Closed days #1–5 have no assignments and will not be made up. Closed day #6+ will be made up on the three weekdays following the last day of school as necessary.
Arranging early pick-up
If weather makes early pick-up necessary, please call the office to warn us, and we will try to have your child ready when you arrive.
McGuffey calamity
In the unlikely event of a calamity unique to our school, we will notify parents by email and group text. If we must leave school grounds with your child, we will tape a note to the office door saying where your child has been taken. If you cannot reach us, you may call the Oxford Police, as we will have advised them.
Sharing care
We encourage you to plan ahead to share care with other families if delays or closings will be a burden. We hope your McGuffey community is a source of both support and opportunities to help.
